a maria’s invasion
it all started when I got to be living with Maria. Since then, I didn’t know any “Maria” or “Marina” but my good friend’s granny, which though I wasn’t hanging out too much with, and the lady from an old hairdressing saloon. Today, after the Sara’s invasion, the Francesca’s invasion, it’s now time of Mari’s invasion. Let’s go back in Berlin, Dunckerstr.: Maria, very german and very east-berliner, was pronouncing her name so strictly that after just a week a started calling her “Mari”. It was just meant to feel more comfortable with someone you’re seeing 24/7, or just to recall my family, as I call everybody with “i”-ending-nicknames (my friends as well). well, since her, lots of people I was meeting were named Maria, Marie, Marianne, Marina, Mari: SO many, i still can’t believe it. At work, at K7, there was Marie – from northern germany. My french intern-mate was Marianne, adorable Marianne. At home, Mari. At work, Marì and Marianne (which I was calling Mari as well to make it shorter). A bit of confusion started. After a few months I fell in love with a singer, whose name is Mari Kaabe, from Norway. I write to her every now and then, and just in this case I am officially allowed to call her Mari. Now, at home, I speak online with Maria, Marianne, Mari and have met a couple of people called Marina – that makes them Mari straight away. Then, the summer season started, and where do we go? to Marina di Ravenna, Marina for friends. It’s crazy!!!
I realised it last night, when i was talking to maria. I was like “Hey mari”, and at some point I didn’t know who I was writing to. Aweful. I better tidy up my “Maria’s” pantheon.
